About the Event
Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing how people search for health information, understand medical advice, and access research evidence. But how do people know whether the information they receive is accurate, reliable, and trustworthy?
To mark World Evidence-Based Healthcare Day 2026 celebrated under the global theme “Evidence and AI: People at the Centre.” eBASE Africa is convening an in-person dialogue in Yaounde to explore people's experiences with AI and health information.
Bringing together participants from different professional, educational, and community backgrounds, the dialogue will create space to share experiences, discuss how people assess the information provided by AI tools, and reflect on what responsible, trustworthy, and people-centred use of AI in health information should look like.
The conversation recognises that AI and health evidence affect everyone not only researchers and health professionals. The experiences and perspectives of the wider public are equally important in shaping how these tools are understood and used.
Why This Dialogue Matters
AI tools are increasingly becoming part of everyday life, including how people seek answers to health questions. While these tools can make information easier to access and understand, questions remain about the accuracy of their responses, the reliability of their sources, the risks of misinformation, and the ability of users to judge what they can trust.
Understanding people's real experiences is essential to ensuring that AI supports informed decisions without compromising trust, equity, or people's well-being.
This dialogue will provide an opportunity to reflect on these issues and consider how people can remain at the centre of AI-enabled access to health information and evidence.
What Will the Dialogue Explore?
The discussion will focus on questions such as:
- How are people using AI tools to find and understand health information?
- What experiences have people had when using AI to answer health-related questions?
- How do people decide whether AI-generated health information is accurate and trustworthy?
- What challenges or concerns arise when people rely on AI for health information?
- What would responsible, trustworthy, and people-centred use of AI in health information look like?
